Contract Surveyor - St Ann's, Harringay
Role Overview:
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Quantity Surveyor to manage cash flow, minimise costs, and maximize value across construction projects. This role involves working closely with production and technical teams to ensure profitability through effective cost management, accurate financial projections, and adherence to company procedures (ISO9001). The Contract Surveyor will also be responsible for overseeing the financial aspects of the project, from contract sum analysis to the final account.
Key Responsibilities:

Collaboration & Risk Management:
Work closely with Production & Technical Leads to identify and manage risks, scope changes, and the overall programme to ensure projects run smoothly. -
Design & Financial Monitoring:
Attend and actively participate in design meetings, ensuring actions are completed within agreed timescales. Produce and maintain contract sum analysis and cash flow, while ensuring timely issue of valuations and seeking prompt payments to improve cash flow. -
Subcontractor Management:
Manage subcontractor valuations, payments, and final accounts in line with subcontract conditions. Ensure timely placement of subcontract orders and accurate re-measurement of accounts. -
Cost Control & Procurement:
Review project drawings for potential savings opportunities and ensure compliance with the project budget. Produce buying analysis and manage the timely procurement of subcontractor orders, in line with the agreed schedule. Regularly update procurement schedules to enable accurate monthly reporting and ensure timely issue of CVCs. -
Project Completion & Final Account:
Issue a project outturn cost sheet upon completion and ensure the timely agreement of external final accounts with the client or employer’s agent, following company protocols. Monitor changes on drawings, ensuring any cost implications are flagged before work begins.
Success Measures:
- Timely and accurate completion of design and subcontract actions.
- Subcontract orders placed on time and in line with the procurement schedule.
- Accurate and timely production of CVCs, ensuring effective financial management.
- Adherence to contractual obligations, ensuring risk mitigation and protection of business interests.
- Successful tracking of cost changes and proactive feedback to the supply chain.
- Efficient agreement of final accounts and accurate internal/external forecasting.
Skills and Experience:

Qualifications:
A relevant qualification (e.g., Quantity Surveying, Construction degree, or HND/HNC in Building Studies) is essential. -
Experience:
Previous experience in contract/quantity surveying, particularly in the construction & house-building industry, with a strong background in managing mixed-tenure schemes. Experience with subcontract re-measurement for Piling, Groundworks, RC Frames, and Brickwork is highly desirable. -
Skills:
Strong numerical and problem-solving skills are essential, along with a comprehensive understanding of UK building regulations, health and safety standards, and construction techniques. Excellent interpersonal skills are required to liaise with internal teams, clients, and subcontractors. -
Other:
Experience in value engineering and compliance with Health & Safety legislation, risk assessments, method statements, and safety plans.
