Senior Development Manager

As a Senior Development Manager at Hill, you’ll lead complex, high-value residential and joint venture projects from post-acquisition through to pre-construction handover. You’ll bring strategic oversight, commercial expertise and confident coordination to every stage of the development process—guiding teams, mitigating risks and turning great ideas into real progress.
This is a senior leadership role where you’ll manage £20m+ schemes, mentor junior colleagues, and act as the lead voice on technical, legal and planning matters—ensuring every project aligns with Hill’s quality, vision and values.
What you’ll do:
- Lead a portfolio of land-led and JV schemes across acquisition, planning and pre-delivery
- Manage key programmes, budgets, appraisals and risk registers with clarity and confidence
- Oversee consultant teams, ensuring deliverables meet scope, timelines and Hill’s standards
- Coordinate internal departments—Technical, Sales, Commercial, Finance, Land—to deliver fully aligned projects
- Drive planning strategies, oversee submissions and guide multi-phase delivery approaches
- Validate financial modelling, challenge assumptions and ensure commercial alignment
- Support bids, acquisitions and planning appeals with accurate data and well-structured analysis
- Lead project handovers, ensuring teams are set up for success from the start
- Represent Hill in meetings with landowners, planning authorities and clients
- Act as APC Supervisor and mentor to Development Managers, Assistants and Trainees
- Contribute to business development conversations and the identification of new opportunities
- Champion Hill’s values and high-performance culture across your team and region
What we’re looking for:
- Full MRICS or MRTPI qualification
- Significant experience in residential development leadership
- Proven track record managing projects from acquisition to delivery
- Skilled in viability appraisals, financial planning and commercial reporting
- Confident leading internal and external stakeholders across complex programmes
- Strategic thinker with a strong eye for detail and delivery
- Excellent communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills
- A collaborative leader who brings others with them
